Misra’s Journey
From Hidden to Hopeful
Misra Hussen is a symbol of strength and ability. At the age of three, she became disabled due to illness and lack of timely medical care. From that moment, her life changed completely.
For 17 years, Misra was hidden inside her home in Gadab Asasa. She had no wheelchair, no chance to go outside, no schooling, no play with friends, and no holiday celebrations. She lived without hope, feeling invisible and forgotten.
Even her neighbors thought she had passed away because they had not seen her for so many years.

Then one day, her life turned around. Her close relative connected her to Kenna for Kids with Disabilities. Kenna gave her a wheelchair—more than just a tool for movement, it was a gift of life, hope, and freedom.
With her new wheelchair, Misra joined her community for the first time during the Eid al-Fitr holiday. She was amazed to see people gathered together, celebrating, because she had never witnessed such joy before. That day she said:
“Now I feel human. I can do everything others do with this wheelchair.”
Kenna then helped Misra enroll in school. After 17 years of being hidden, she began her education—and surprised everyone with her hard work. She became the top student in her class. Inspired by her determination, Kenna brought her to Shashemane, where she now lives at the Disability Support and Living Center.
Today, Misra is in Grade 5. She is the number one scorer in her class, active in sports, and fully engaged in social, economic, and religious activities. She has gained confidence, hope, and a bright vision for her future.
Kenna is proud to stand beside her, but Misra’s story speaks for itself: she is living proof that every child, regardless of disability, has the power to inspire and to lead.
Misra’s story is not just her own—it is a reminder that with support and opportunity, children with disabilities can achieve greatness. She is no longer hidden. She is a leader, a role model, and a true inspiration.
