Kenna for Kids with Disabilities: International day of PWDs
Full-Week Celebration, December 2025

In December 2025, Kenna for Kids with Disabilities Organization went beyond the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (Dec 3) by celebrating a full week of activities in Shashemane to promote inclusion, respect, and equal opportunities for children and Person with disabilities.

Week-Long Activities

December 1–2 – Media Campaigns & Awareness
Social media campaigns in Afaan Oromo and Amharic reached hundreds of community members, challenging stigma and encouraging inclusive attitudes toward people with disabilities.

December 3 – Community Awareness Across Shashemane
A town-wide awareness campaign with car-mounted speakers broadcasted the global theme across neighborhoods and marketplaces, reaching thousands. Messages focused on dignity, full participation, and equal opportunities for all.

December 5 – Free Health Screening
In collaboration with Franko Specialty Clinic, free health screenings were conducted to improve early detection and access to care.

December 7 – Community Walk and Wheelchair Basketball

A 3 km community walk and a wheelchair basketball match between Kenna Basketball Team (Shashemane) and Addis Guzo Basketball Team (Finfinnee) inspired over 300 participants, reinforcing messages of ability, confidence, and inclusion.

Results & Impact

  • Direct reach: 700 participants actively engaged in the week-long activities.
  • Indirect reach: Approximately 11,000 community members were exposed to awareness campaigns through media and public events.
  • Heightened public awareness and positive attitudes toward people with disabilities.
  • Empowered children and adults with disabilities to participate confidently in community life.
  • Strengthened partnerships with government, civil society, and volunteers for sustained inclusion.
  • Promoted inclusion as a cultural value rather than a single-day observance.
