Our Approach
Kenna’s strength lies in its deep community connection and lived experience. We are not outsiders serving children with disabilities—we are mothers, advocates, educators, and professionals who live the challenges, understand the stigma, and are committed to creating lasting change from within.
What makes Kenna unique is our holistic, grassroots model. We work directly with families, schools, local leaders, and like-minded organizations to design culturally relevant, inclusive programs that address real-life barriers children face every day.
Our approach is based on the Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) model, addressing six key pillars: advocacy & awareness, inclusive education, mobility equipment support, economic empowerment, health care, and disability center development. Whether it’s providing a wheelchair, training a teacher, supporting a caregiver’s business, or conducting awareness campaigns in schools and communities, we focus on long-term inclusion and transformation.
From our roots in the Ethiopian and U.S. disability communities, Kenna has grown into a powerful advocate and implementer of disability rights. Our team works across Ethiopia and beyond, laying the groundwork for model disability centers, inclusive schools, and empowered families.
At every level, we center the voices of children with disabilities, challenge stigma, and build systems that affirm their value and potential
